Overview

The Product Design team designs, validates and brings new products to market.; designs, tests and integrates components to produce final designs; and evaluates the design’s overall effectiveness, cost, reliability and safety. Collaborates with internal partners to optimize designs for manufacturability. Uses CAD/CAE systems to model new designs and produce detailed engineering drawings.

In our 5 global studios, we have more than 100 designers in dedicated teams of Graphic Design, Color Material and Finish, Craftsmanship, Industrial Design, Trends Forecasting, User Interaction, Motion Graphics, Usability, Design Research, and Studio Engineering. 

This position sits in our Design Center located in Southwest Michigan. The Design Center is the global headquarters for design at KitchenAid/Whirlpool Corporation. 

As an Associate Industrial Designer, you will support efforts to understand emerging trends, seek out real-life insights, and create design solutions that will impact experiences for the next generation of home appliances for the KitchenAid brand.

Your responsibilities will include
 

Create assets ranging from conceptual sketches, CAD models, physical prototypes, and high quality renderings/animations to communicate design intent.
Work with a variety of process partners to gain an understanding of marketing strategies, manufacturing requirements, and engineering constraints. 
Grow an understanding of our design strategies and philosophies by working with cross-functional design leads.
Work with design specialists in graphic design, CMF, UI/UX, usability, and craftsmanship to create fully immersive experiences.
Minimum requirements
 

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Industrial Design
1+ years of Industrial Design experience (experience may include academics, internships or co-ops)
Preferred skills and experiences
 

1+ years of professional Industrial Design experience in a corporate or consultant environment
3D Computer modeling skills 
Strong project management and planning skills 
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to facilitate communication across different disciplines 
Strong decision-making abilities and self-motivation 
Strong visual communication skills
Ability to adapt design intent through the development process.
