Overview

Under the direction and supervision of the Occupational Therapist, provides occupational therapy services to patients/clients to assist in improving basic motor functions, reasoning abilities, compensating for permanent loss of function by teaching patients/clients to perform tasks in their daily living and working environments. May provide treatment to patients/clients with cognitive impairment, psychosocial dysfunction and physical disability. Assists with patient/clients and caregiver education.

Essential Functions

Assists Occupational Therapists in providing therapy to patient/client. Participates in the preparation and execution of the patient/client’s overall plan of care.
Provides a treatment program as planned, delegated, and supervised by the Occupational Therapist according to agency policy to restore and return maximal function to the patient/client. Assesses the effectiveness of treatment and modifies treatment methods under the direction of the Occupational Therapist.
Documentation for each patient/client is in compliance with department standards, medical-legal, regulatory and reimbursement procedures. Ensures that required documentation for activities within areas of responsibility is completed in an accurate and timely manner.
Communicates with other members of the health care team in order to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services. Attend and participate in interdisciplinary conferences to coordinate patient/client care. Provides input into education information for family or caregivers regarding the Occupational Therapy program.
Alerts the supervising occupational therapist or designees of potential health problems or changes in the patient/client’s condition.
May instruct and train rehabilitation staff, nursing, other medical staff and students regarding patient/client needs and rehabilitation services.
Participates in ongoing process improvement and program development.
Provides transportation of the patient/client as needed using the employee’s personal vehicle to
community based resources related to the patient/client’s therapeutic goals (Home Care business lines only/based on SH entity).
 

Qualifications

Associate’s Degree accredited therapy assistant program (Required)
Therapy assistance experience (Preferred)
Experience in neurological injury, TBI, and Spinal Cord injury (based on Spectrum Health entity) (Preferred)
Occupational Therapy Assistant, Certified (COTA) – NB-COT National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy Upon Hire (Required)
Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA American Heart Association or Basic Life Support (BLS) – ARC American Red Cross 90 Days (Required)
Driver’s License – STATE_MI State of Michigan Home Care Business Lines
