Overview
As a Tooling Engineer, your role involves standardized assignments related to tooling projects. You’ll extract engineering data from various sources, process it using defined methods, and conduct routine analyses to ensure the applicability, accuracy, and reasonableness of product designs as they pertain to tooling.
Scope:
Forecasting Tooling Investment: Predict future tooling needs for North America programs.
Estimating Foam tooling and Timing: Provide estimates for Foam tooling costs and timing.
Engineering Drawings and GD&T: Understand engineering drawings, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
Progress Evaluation: Evaluate and report on ongoing tooling programs.
Foam Process Knowledge: Apply process knowledge to tool design.
Timely Program Completion: Ensure tooling programs are completed on time and within budget.
Education:
A 4-year degree or equivalent experience in Foam Tooling.
Experience:
5-10 years of experience in tool engineering, specifically related to Foam tooling and applications.
3-5 years of experience in Tool design and engineering change management.
Job Specific Comments:
Collaborate on the design and development of Foam mold tooling.
Make purchase commitments for tools.
Track and report the progress of tooling programs, from sourcing to production readiness.
Assist in developing and updating tooling program timelines.
Contribute to the development of Tooling standards manuals.
Act as a liaison between manufacturing plants, customers, and staff headquarters during tooling development and build cycles.
Coordinate information between tooling suppliers and internal business groups and program management groups.
Assist with home line runoff activities, working closely with production, tool source shops.
Review engineering drawings for assigned programs.
Other duties as assigned
Assist Lear Corporate Purchasing and program management group in information needed for them to procure production and tryout material.
Have full working knowledge of the Lear AS400, SAP, and PLM systems.
Be prepared for up to 35% travel to US and Mexico.
