Overview

Location: Detroit, MI

This engineering position is responsible for evaluating or providing complex technical approaches or solutions to a project manager or development manager. Work involves performing difficult and complex services requiring a high level of independent judgement, initiative, and discretion. Work is mainly self-directed, with work results reviewed through the achievement of set goals and adherence to policies and procedures.
Key Accountabilities
Develops conceptual design, preliminary equipment sizing, projects costs, manages budgets and maintains relationships with equipment vendors, engineering firms, EPC contractors, and DTE Vantage customers
Creates project technical requirements for technical project work and project execution in conjunction with project developer and project management
Interpretates, evaluates, and resolutions technical design issues
 Manages the work of outside engineering firms; establishes scope and reporting protocol and resolves any outstanding issues
Represents DTE Vantage interests from a design, installation, and O&M perspective on technical aspects of projects
Actively participates in project/development meetings and demonstrates a lead role relative to technical issues and associated resolutions
Evaluates and negotiates competitive EPC proposals
Manages the production of EPC project documentation including technical specifications, calculations, and drawings to ensure protection of owner’s technical and financial position.
Performs all other related duties as assigned
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from an accredited college or university in Engineering, with 10 or more years of experience as a project engineer or manager in the competitive, non-regulated energy projects market 
Other Qualifications
Preferred:

Registered Professional Engineer
Working knowledge of equipment such as gas turbines, steam turbines, reciprocating engines, boilers, condensers, fans, heat exchangers, compressors, chilled water technology, electrical distribution equipment, transformers, motors, generators and piping and valves
Working knowledge of MS applications, including Word and Excel, in a Windows environment
Understanding of energy efficiency practices, energy conservation techniques, and energy cycle types
Experience with Thermoflex and/or GTpro
 

Other Requirements: 

Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
Possess strong communication and presentation skills
Possess and maintain professional engineer’s license
Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels
Capable of taking projects from start to finish without a significant level of supervision
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, coworkers, management, and the general public

The employee performs job duties primarily in a work from home capacity and periodically from a climate-controlled office environment, with a moderate noise level. However, on an occasional basis the employee may be required to travel to project sites where noise levels and environmental conditions may vary.
