Overview

The Safety Specialist supports DTE Vantage in implementation and oversight of safety programs and policies at sites located throughout the United States. The position reports to the Manager, Safety Team. This is a corporate staff position based in Detroit, Michigan with the ability to work remotely.
Key Accountabilities
Develop, implement, and continuously improve safety programs
Work collaboratively with leadership and employees to strengthen the company’s safety culture
Lead strategic safety initiatives
Conduct site assessments and recommend solutions to address gaps
Work with leaders to ensure compliance with regulations and alignment with company expectations
Create and deliver safety-related reports and presentations
Develop and present training and educational programs
Travel to project sites (approx. 25%)
Perform all other related duties as assigned
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Occupational Safety or a closely related field
Four years of practical experience in industrial safety, safety management systems, training, field/site safety auditing, project management, and hazard identification and control
Other Qualifications
Preferred

Extensive knowledge of occupational safety regulations
Knowledge of electrical standards
Knowledge of, and experience with, safety management systems
Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Must be able to reach with hands and arms, and to hold objects 
Must be able to sit, stand or walk for up to 8 hours per day, including walking long distances, up and down stairs and ladders and on uneven ground  
Must be able to frequently lift objects of up to 10 pounds in weight  
Vision requirements for this position include close, distance and peripheral vision, along with depth perception 
Must be able to hear conversations in noisy environments
The employee works both in a business office setting and at project sites
Must be able to work outdoors during all seasons including wet and/or humid conditions, and extreme cold and/or heat
